Democracies for the Politicians!

Abraham Lincoln made his famous statement on democracy as "by the people, of the people and for the people". While democracies all over the world have been created by the people and made of the people, very few are functioning for the people. India the world's largest democracy exercised its powers to elect a new government, which today is having less than the required minimum fifty percent of members for a simple majority. The party which has secured the largest number of members has formed a government with the support of other parties - so even the concept of "of the people" has not been fully satisfied. Inspite of having a democratic government the last sixty years, the standard of living has only marginally increased and there are millions in the country even without the basic requirements of adequate drinking water, one square meal, minimum clothing and shelter. But surprisingly politicians who are supposed to serve the people in a democracy are quite well off and have amassed wealth for a few of their generations to come. So democracy in India has now become "by the politicians, of the politicians and only for the politicians"!
